The Dance Hub

American Dance & Music’s (AD&M) free community event, Up Close at The Dance Hub (formerly known as Dance: Up Close and Cultural) has a new home. This inspiring event is for families with children as well as anyone interested in dance, music, and the arts. It will take place at The Dance Hub, located at 22 East Victoria Street in the heart of Santa Barbara’s theater district. In an intimate studio setting, Up Close at The Dance Hub will feature new works by modern dance and belly dance choreographers, including Weslie Ching, Juli Farley, Stephanie Miracle, and Krischana Thompson, director of Aurora Moon and/Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. As a special treat, AD&M’s Music Director/pianist, Eric Valinsky and oboist, Adelle Rodkey will perform Ravel’s Sonatine.

Audience members will be invited onstage and encouraged to participate in fun interactive movement experiences with Dance Hub students: beginner adult ballet with The Dance Hub Artistic Director, Carrie Diamond; ballet for children with instructor, Susan Manchak; and belly dance with Krischana Thompson. There will be a short Q and A with the performers and choreographers at the end of the performance, after which refreshments will be served.

This production of Up Close at The Dance Hub was funded by a grant from the Towbes Fund for the Performing Arts.

The choreographers on this program received rent subsidy awards from The Dance Hub, funded by the Organizational Development Grants Program using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara as administered by Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture.

Our state-of-the-art dance floor was funded partially by a grant from the Santa Barbara Foundation and by the contributions of generous donors.

Our beautiful Steinway piano was generously donated by Dr. Betty Oberacker.
